Project: Be Connected

Helping older Australians thrive in a digital world is more important than ever. Increasing skills, knowledge, confidence, and capacity to use digital technology as part of seniors’ daily lifestyle activities enables them to make well-informed decisions, support independence, increase choice and control as well as reduce social isolation.

Be Connected is an Australian government initiative committed to increasing the confidence, skills and online safety of older Australians. Be Connected aims to empower everyone to use the internet and everyday technology to thrive in our digital world. The Network is managed by Good Things Foundation and is part of the wider Be Connected initiative. In 2019, Catalyst Foundation became a Be Connected Network Capacity Builder, and a gateway for seniors to be a part of the digital landscape more than ever.

Through the Be Connected online resources, Australians are learning the basics of using digital devices and engaging with the internet, including:

  • being safer while online
  • talking to or seeing family and friends who live far away
  • finding new friends who share interests and hobbies
  • connecting with old friends
  • keeping up to date with what’s happening in communities and around the world
  • shopping and selling online, safely and securely.

As a Network Partner, Catalyst Foundation is a local arm of Be Connected, and offers in-person help and support to older Australians who are disengaged with digital technology.

Catalyst Foundation offers practical, customised one-on-one and group digital learning sessions at our Adelaide location. Please contact us on 8168 8776 for details and to register.

BECOMING A DIGITAL MENTOR

Digital Mentors support people to build their confidence and skills to use digital technology. Being a Digital Mentor is about inspiring people to try using digital technology and supporting them through their first steps using computers, mobile devices and the internet. Part of your role as a Digital Mentor is to inspire and support people to gain digital skills. You’ll also promote confidence and independence, which goes towards reducing social exclusion.
