Culturally and Linguistically Diverse

CALD Image

Older people from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) backgrounds may experience unique challenges when accessing aged care, including language barriers, differing cultural expectations, and limited familiarity with Australian systems. Culturally safe care ensures that services respect and respond to cultural identity, traditions, faith, family roles, and communication preferences.

It also involves supporting interpreters, culturally appropriate resources, and community engagement. When services recognise and value cultural diversity, older people feel more comfortable, better understood, and more willing to access help when needed.
