Choices - Successful Transition to Retirement & Community Living

SARVRA Project

About the project

Catalyst Foundation, in partnership with the South Australian Retirement Villages’ Residents’ Association (SARVRA), is delivering the Choices and Successful Transition to Retirement and Community Living project, proudly funded by the South Australian Government’s Office for Ageing Well. This six-month initiative provides practical, accessible information sessions for people considering a move into a retirement village or community living environment.

The upcoming legislative reforms scheduled for February 2026 represent significant improvements in resident protections, transparency, disclosure requirements, and exit arrangements. For many prospective residents, understanding these changes—and knowing what questions to ask—is essential when comparing villages, reviewing contracts or planning for future lifestyle needs.

Through co-presented sessions, Catalyst Foundation and SARVRA staff guide participants through key aspects of village life, financial models, rights and responsibilities, and the reforms designed to enhance fairness and clarity for residents. The content is designed to be easy to understand, with opportunities for attendees to ask questions and receive tailored guidance.

Two sessions were successfully delivered in late 2025, with further events planned across Adelaide and regional areas in 2026. Session dates will be added to this project page as they are confirmed. The ultimate aim is to ensure individuals feel confident, well-informed and empowered when deciding whether retirement village living is right for them.

Program Outcomes

This project aims to build understanding, confidence and decision-making capacity among people considering a move into retirement village or community living. Expected outcomes include improved awareness of the February 2026 legislative reforms, greater clarity around contracts, fees and exit provisions, and a stronger ability to assess whether village life aligns with personal needs and preferences.

By providing accessible, unbiased information, we hope participants feel empowered to ask the right questions, compare options and avoid misunderstandings. Ultimately, the project seeks to support informed choices, smoother transitions into village living, and a more transparent, resident-centred retirement village sector across South Australia.
