About project

Throughout 2016/17 we worked with Associate Professor Dale Bagshaw, University of South Australia and a dedicated Advisory Committee to develop and deliver “My Mediation Options – A CALD Perspective” project with funding support from the Department for Communities and Social Inclusion.

The project sought to understand how established and new/emerging CALD communities defined Elder Abuse and Domestic Violence and to increase awareness of domestic violence and the wide range of support services available in both metropolitan and regional settings.

In addition, the project sought to identify and train Community Champions who could work within their community as a linkage point and as a support for people who were experiencing or witnessing these issues within their families or networks.

Project Outcomes

Members of the Cambodian, Chinese, Croatian, Greek, Filipino, Indonesian, Italian, Liberian, Macedonian, Malaysian, Muslim, Polish, Spanish speaking, Ukrainian, and Vietnamese communities participated in the project.

The project surpassed all its outcome targets, consulting with over 100 agencies and 230 members of the CALD communities, and training 33 Community Champions. This project was presented at the Flinders University, Ageing in a Foreign Land Conference, where it was received very positively.
